Apple Nachos Bar
These easy make-at-home Apple Nachos are such a fun alternative to fancy caramel apples. Our family loves gourmet apples covered in all kinds of chocolate, caramel, and candy goodness. But they can be expensive to purchase and quite complicated to make at home with little kids. Apple Nachos are easy to make and don’t sacrifice any of the flavors we love! And if you are making these in the fall after Halloween, it’s a great way to use up all the chocolate candy!
The goal is to keep it simple but fun! Not only are apples nachos easier to make, but they are easier to eat as well. We do slice our purchased gourmet caramel apples to make them easier to eat, but I’ve lost count of the number of times that yummy candy coating just falls off while we are cutting the apples. That’s no fun!
An Apple Nacho Bar is easy to serve to a crowd. Everyone can customize their flavors, and most go back for seconds and thirds to try all the different combinations. And by most, I mean me…and surely I’m not the only one??!
My oldest son has Type 1 Diabetes, and we were able to make a more blood sugar friendly version for him by using sugar free Reese’s, sugar free caramel syrup, sugar free whipped cream, and Lily’s chocolate for melting and drizzling.
Ingredients:
- Apples – Granny Smith and Honeycrisp are our favorite for apple nachos
- Favorite Toppings: caramel dip, melting chocolate, chopped nuts, chopped candy bars, mini chocolate chips, whipped cream, crushed graham crackers, cinnamon
- Sprite, lemon juice, or lime juice for preserving apple freshness
Directions:
- Thinly slice apples and soak in Sprite, lemon juice, or lime juice to keep them from turning brown.
- Melt chocolate (baking bars or melting wafers) in double boiler. I use this melting pot from Wilton.
- Prepare toppings and arrange in small containers.
- Dry apples on paper towels and arrange on food board. Add bowls of toppings and serve.
Simple and Delicious! Everyone can fix their own plate of nachos with all their favorite toppings!
One of my favorite flavor combos is sprinkling the apples with cinnamon, drizzling caramel dip and white chocolate, then sprinkling with crushed graham cracker crumbs. It reminds me of apple pie flavored gourmet apples.
There’s definitely no need to be fancy, but if you have a Mickey cutting board, use it to add just a Spoonful of Tinkerdust magic to your Apple Nacho Bar!
